april 25-26, 2009

November 21st, 2008

mark your calendars. queercamp has a weekend. the last weekend in april.. the weekend after easter.. april 25th and 26th, with a pre-party on the 24th. it will be held at bucketworks, in milwaukee wisconsin.

now what’s next on the to-do list? well we need to promote and get as many people on board to present, attend, support, donate and get the word out! so what can you do to help? this is not a “one man band” by any means. we have strength in our numbers. what talents and gifts can you bring to the table? can you help write promotional materials? do you have connections or contacts in LGBTQ organizations? do you have a blog, website or podcast?  do you have some time to help get the word out on *this* site or the queercamp twitter? can you cook, prepare, or warm up food? ANYTHING! just let me know by sending us an email. and we’ll add you to the group discussion!

bring your own passion (BYOP) to queercamp

August 28th, 2008

after a great discussion today for lunch, i felt inspired to write a little about something i noticed: queercamp will be indescribable.

now why would i describe queercamp as indescribable? well, first reason is that you can’t just sum up the queercamp idea in a sentence. heck, you can’t even sum it up in a paragraph.  but also, it’s something that will mean something different to every person involved. i’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “what you put into something is what you’ll get out of it.”   i think this phrase can be taken even a step further when speaking about an “unconference” like queercamp. we all bring something to the table. we all have differnet passions, different carreers, different toolsets, different viewpoints, (etc).

all of these “different pieces” end up being extremly crutial to strenghten and grow community. every person’s passions are important for queercamp.

this is a very important concept to grasp for queercamp to work. this isn’t like a conference where you sit, and listen to a supposed “expert” rain down wisdom from thine highest conference podium… this is where we sit in a circle and discuss, learn, share, teach, network and grow. this is where everyone brings what they are passionate about, and lead a session, workshop or discussion about it. this is where people connect to brainstorm the solutions to problems. where people meet to bridge gaps in communities. where people work together to make the world a better place.

so this is what queercamp really is all about.

something big is coming…

follow the creation of a movement by following queercamp…

hey, we want to hear from you as well! let us know what you envision for queercamp. leave a comment, or drop us a message on one of the above networks, or even send us an email. we can achieve much more when we work together.

looking for great minds

August 20th, 2008

queercamp is looking for more great minds to brainstorm what queercamp is going to be. and going with the “barcamp” mentality, the people/community are the ones that run the show. if you are interested, please contact us! thanks
